Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

After spending the first part of my career in IT application, I worked as an Information Security Consultant for some years before taking on the CISO role at IVECO SpA. After a couple of years, I also took on the role of ICT CTO, supporting a huge infrastructure renewal program. In several different company reorganisations, I kept enlarging the perimeter of the roles under my responsibilities, which includes cloud operations governance.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

In our security mission, it is extremely important to make people understand why we do the things we do and to be accepted as enablers on new technologies and opportunities rather than censors. With this in mind, a fundamental guiding principle is collaboration combined with availability and flexibility.

With disruption being a key theme of the past few years, where do you see your role as a CISO going in the next 1-2 years?

The role of CISO is evolving and in addition to knowledge and technical skills - which remain fundamental in any case - communication skills and high-level relationship management skills with board members must now be combined to help them understand the risks and need to continue investing in processes and solutions.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CISO?

Acquire as much knowledge about the business and key stakeholders as possible to create state of the art security. It is essential to correctly position the company's degree of maturity in order to then draw an evolutionary roadmap and its measurement criteria.

Tell us 3 fun facts about yourself.

  1. When I was young I was an American football player, now I can only watch games on streaming!
  2. Working from home gave me the opportunity to become the best friend of my dog.
  3. I'm a camper, and I love the outdoors.
