What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Simplicity. As simple as possible, but not simpler.

What is the greatest challenge you are facing today, and how are you addressing it?

As with any strategic business leader, a top priority for me is ensuring that the security strategy is effectively aligned with the overall business strategy and objectives. A major challenge in this regard is maintaining a strategy, processes, and a team that can rapidly adapt to changes while consistently delivering high-quality and efficient results.

For the strategy piece, it is crucial to maintain a thorough understanding of the business and possess the ability to communicate effectively in business terms, and there is no better way to achieve this than by dedicating substantial time to engaging with business stakeholders across the organisation.

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CISO?

Lean on your network and continuously build it. I have gained some of the most valuable lessons and avoided mistakes by learning from others' experiences.

How do you measure success as a leader?

A key metric for me is the degree to which the strategy I am driving is understood and embraced by my employees and peers – It’s about ensuring that the people within the organisation fully comprehend and align with that vision, and most importantly that their actions and results represent that.
