Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.

My love for technology and all things cyber started with the classic film – Hackers.  After watching that, I had a passion to learn about technology which started me down this path.  I spent my early career between Information Security and Infrastructure roles, eventually moving into a position where I was able to help businesses build their own Information Security practices. Shortly after that, I took the helm of building my own program.

What is one of your guiding leadership principles?

Do the right thing, which often means taking the harder and longer road.

What is the greatest challenge CISOs face today, and how are you addressing it?

Doing more with less!  Everyone is facing this challenge, but with increasing personal and organizational liability there is more at stake for CISOs. Treating cybersecurity like a team sport and avoiding heroics is a great way to get alignment, and it helps if you speak the language of your team!

What is the key to success for someone just starting out as a CISO?

Don't go at it alone! Find a peer community and/or find a mentor.

How do you measure success as a leader?

Success to me is measured by the impact I have had on people and organizations, especially when that impact is sustainable.
