Mike Waldrop currently serves as the Sr. Director of Information Security at Schneider National, a premier provider of transportation, intermodal and logistics services. In this position, he is responsible for developing and executing Schneider’s cyber security and information protection strategy including information security, data privacy and cyber risk management for internal and cloud-based systems and services. Additional responsibilities include technical communication systems, data center operations and client support.

Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I have always had a passion for business, technology and how technology can drive business outcomes. As businesses have become increasingly digital and dependent on digital platforms, the challenge of securing business solutions while continuing to enable users and new uses led me to use my background in infrastructure, architecture and platform development to find ways of delivering secure solutions that increase productivity and business outcomes.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
Open communication and ensuring everyone clearly understands what success is and how they contribute to the success of the organization is key.
With disruption being a key theme of recent years, where do you see the CISO role going in the next 1-2 years?
As the industry faces new challenges and opportunities from digital transformation – cyber threats, regulatory changes, and customer expectations – there is an increased need to align the security vision and goals with the business objectives and priorities. Security leaders cannot only protect the organization from cyber-attacks, but also must enable innovation and growth through secure and reliable solutions.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a CISO?
Find key, strategic partners within the business, develop collaborative relationships that can build a foundation for working together to drive innovation and security.
