Give us a brief overview of the path that led to your current role.
I have always worked with tech. I started my professional life in the telecom sector and worked with various aspects of program and portfolio management, product development and business partnering. I thrive where business meets tech and have ultimately always thought of the two as combined concepts. That's also how I came to take the role as CISO at Vestas. CISO's need to understand both business and tech to drive forward the agenda in organizations today – even with a stronger emphasis on the business side.
What is one of your guiding leadership principles?
Trust is deeply rooted in how I lead and how I create relationships with peers and executives. Without that, most of the other elements of being a leader become extremely hard.
With disruption being a key theme of the past few years, where do you see your role as a CISO going in the next 1-2 years?
The cyber security theater/arena becomes exceedingly complex. In that setting, it's imperative that CISOs manage to explain risks and manage risk in a language executives understand and know. Quantifying risks and translating them to business impacts is key.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the role as a CISO?
Make sure all the dangers around you don't stress you out. You don't have to mitigate them all yourself. Trust your team, your processes and your tech.
Tell a fun fact about yourself.
I really like sports...probably not a fun fact :) Before university, I was a competitive swimmer, water polo player, sailor and skier (the common theme might be water). Today I don't have all the time I want for sports, but I try to prioritize hiking, indoor rowing and padel tennis.
